Why Internal Communication Is Vital In Business

It may be a bit of cliché, but communication is the lifeblood of any company. By definition, a company is not a set of individual people doing different things, but instead a cohesive group of people interacting to achieve a united goal. That said, it is amazing just how many businesses have poor communication strategies and really suffer as a result. Here are 3 of the main reasons why you want your staff talking to each other.
Better Productivity. It is the teams who adopt comprehensive communication strategies that perform best, a fact that has been proved in numerous studies over the years. This is specifically due to the fact no single member of staff can own all the skills need to make a well rounded team and instead lots of people each have their own skill sets. In order for a business to be robust, everyone must share their skills and help each other out when needed. Team building days are a perfect example of this, where the teams who use each other’s strongest abilities perform best.
Less Destructive Office Politics. No company, despite how good they are, can eradicate office politics completely. Feuds between colleagues will inevitably happen, but they are made infinitely worse by not addressing this issue and leads to the problem escalating in most occasions where it could otherwise be diffused. When a team comes together to address confrontations head on and candidly, they often diffuse the issue quickly and find solutions to the problem together. Also, it often prevents the same problem arising again as everyone can keep an eye out for the warning signs.
Happier Staff. It may seem very outdated, but believe it or not, a great many companies have strict policies on staff talking in work hours. The best productivity will not come from these businesses however, as communication is a necessary for healthy humans as eating. If you are going to be at work for eight or so hours per day, it is actually very important that you talk and laugh with your colleges.
For companies suffering from weak communications, corporate events and team building activities such as corporate cookery days are a perfect way to get team members bonding and chatting to each other.
